Milk fudge or milk candy, known as huevitos de leche or faldiqueros, is a typical Panamanian homemade sweet. If you visit the interior or certain regions of the country, such as the city of David in the Chiriqui province, you can find a recipe based on whole milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, condensed milk, mizena, powdered sugar or flour that is part of our culture and our childhood.
Ingredients:
- 1 liter (4 cups) of whole milk
- 1 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1 can of condensed milk
- 2 Tbsp of natural cornstarch
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 Tbsp of powdered sugar
- Tissue paper of different colors cut in 4 ¼ inch x 4 ½ inch-size
Total time: 2 hours
Servings: 54 “eggs”

Directions:
Take ½ cup of whole milk, heat it until it is warm, add the two tablespoons of cornstarch, dissolve, and set aside.
Save the powdered sugar for the end of the recipe.
In a paila or saucepan, pour the rest of the whole milk, cinnamon, sugar, and condensed milk. Mix everything very well and cook it on medium so that it does not stick.
When it is about to boil, add the diluted cornstarch.
Remove the cinnamon sticks when it is about to thicken. Continue stirring non-stop.
After 30 minutes, once it has thickened, continue stirring without stopping until the entire hour is up.
When 15 minutes have passed and when you see that it is a golden brown, the mixture is ready. Turn off the heat and transfer the contents to a glass tray with a little powdered sugar on the bottom.
Let it cool a little, and when the mixture is warm and you can handle it in your hands, make balls in the powdered sugar, and place each ball on a tray so that it does not stick to the base until finished.
You can sculpt up to 54 little “eggs,” depending on the size you like.
Let cool until hard and then wrap them in different colors of tissue paper.
Enjoy!
