Tropical Shrimp Ceviche

Shrimp ceviche or ceviche de camaron is a very popular dish in Central and South America. Here is a traditional Panamanian recipe. It is a little spicy, but not too much since food in Panama is not really spicy at all.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (½ kg) of shrimp
  • 1 medium onion
  • 10 lemons
  • ½ tablespoon of salt
  • ½ of mustard
  • ¼ of a cup of ketchup
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 green paprika
  • 12 twig of coriander
  • 1 habanero

Prep time: 30 min. Total time: 6 h 00 min. Servings: 4

Directions:

Heat the water and when it is boiling, toss the previously-cleaned shrimp to cook for two minutes, then strain them and let cool.

Chop all the vegetables into small cubes and squeeze all the lemons.

Combine the lemon juice and diced vegetables in a glass bowl (do not use a metal bowl or metal utensils, as lemon juice contains a high amount of citric acid), then add the salt, mustard and ketchup. Stir well.

Cover and refrigerate for at least three hours.

After 3 hours, your Shrimp Ceviche will be ready.

Enjoy!
