Panama Tropic (panamatropic.com) is a personal food and travel site run by Artur and Margoth. Please read this page before you rely on anything you find here. “We,” “us” and “our” mean the two of us.

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission. It doesn’t cost you anything extra, and it helps pay for the site.

  • As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Panama Tropic is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
  • Some links go through other affiliate networks, such as CJ (Commission Junction) and Awin. If you buy through those links, the network or the seller may pay us a commission.

Affiliate links never decide what we write. We only recommend kitchen tools, ingredients and travel services we would use ourselves. Product prices and availability are set by the seller and can change at any time, so check the seller’s site before you buy.

Advertising

This site shows ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners choose which ads appear; we don’t pick them, and an ad on this site is not a recommendation from us. Our Privacy Policy explains how ad cookies work and how to opt out of personalized ads.

Recipes and food safety

Our recipes are the way Margoth cooks at home. They’re shared for home cooking and general information only.

  • Allergies and diets: always read ingredient labels and adjust recipes for your own allergies, intolerances and dietary needs. Many Panamanian dishes contain seafood, dairy, eggs, wheat, pork or hot peppers.
  • Food safety: cook meat, poultry and seafood to safe internal temperatures, and handle raw fish with care. Dishes like ceviche use raw fish “cooked” only in citrus juice, which doesn’t kill all bacteria or parasites. Use very fresh fish from a trusted seller, and talk to your doctor if you’re pregnant, elderly or have a weakened immune system.
  • Hot oil and kitchen safety: deep-frying (hojaldras, carimañolas and more) can cause serious burns and fires. Never leave hot oil unattended.
  • Nutrition and results: we don’t provide medical or nutrition advice. Any nutrition numbers are estimates. Results depend on your ingredients, equipment and altitude.

Travel information

Our travel guides are general information, not professional travel, legal, medical or safety advice. Opening hours, prices, ferry and bus schedules, entry requirements, park rules and safety conditions in Panama change often, and some of our guides were written a few years ago.

  • Before you travel, check current entry and passport rules with Panama’s official sources and your own government’s travel advisories (for US citizens, travel.state.gov).
  • Some areas, such as parts of the Darién, carry real risks. Follow official advisories and use licensed local guides.
  • Confirm prices, hours and bookings directly with hotels, tour operators and transportation companies.
  • Get travel insurance, and talk to a travel health clinic about vaccines and health precautions.

You travel at your own risk. We’re not responsible for losses, injuries, delays or other problems that come from relying on information on this site.

Photos, opinions and trademarks

Reviews and recommendations here are our personal opinions. Product, hotel, restaurant and company names are trademarks of their owners and are used only to describe them. Panama Tropic is an independent site and isn’t affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any business we mention, apart from the affiliate programs listed above.
